Aerophone Mini - Octave Exercises - Part 2
Here we go with the 2nd part of my Octave Exercises, please read the first article of this series first.
With this exercise we use all melodic intervals on the whole instrument range. In particular, here you will find all intervals from #4 to M7 and, because of interval complementarity, it will be like playing all the missing intervals too. Here a quick recap table of melodic intervals and their complements.
Interval | Example | Complement |
#4 | C-F# | Itself (#4) |
P5 | C-G | P4 (G-C) |
b6 | C-Ab | M3 (Ab-C) |
M6 | C-A | m3 (A-C) |
b7 | C-Bb | M2 (Bb-C) |
M7 | C-B | m2 (B-C) |
As you can see, we have to play the selected interval (in this case an Augmented 4th) all over the Aerophone Mini's range, so that we can practice octave passages while fingering a combination of a couple of different notes. If we do the same with all possibile starting notes and with all possibile melodic intervals, we obtain a complete workout for this kind of passages. Let's go on with an interval of Perfect 5th.
Minor 6th
Major 6th
Minor 7th
And finally, Major 7th
That's all for now. I have another couple of exercises that I will be publishing in the next weeks. Let me know what you think and if you find any error in the exercises.
Happy tooting!
